Support for SermonSpeaker 5.x is in bugfix mode only, the same as it is for Joomla 3.10.
I will not add any new features to this releases.
Please upgrade to SermonSpeaker 6.x and Joomla 4.x, which is better anyway.

External server setup and tags

I have a client who wants to access their audio files from Box ( www.box.com ) as they already have years worth of sermons stored there. I select "External Server" as the source for audio files and get a field appear to add a script. Is this something I need to write myself (which won't happen as I have no clue how to do it) or do I need to talk with Box?

Second thing - tags. Yes I know I can add them, but why does the keyword search pick them up? I have Options | Global | Filter Field set to yes, but, if I type a tag name in the left hand field I get no results. If this is currently not a function, can I put it forward as a suggestion. Or perhaps a "Tags" module along the lines of the old (now pretty much defunct) word clouds that were all the SEO rage 10 years ago. This actually came from my wife, not the client. She said she'd rather see a sermons archive by topics (which aren't necessarily a Series, or not well served by a single Series name). I proudly said, "Yes, we'll use tags..." But that's only useful once you get to a sermon detail page.

There is an example for that "extern script" here: www.sermonspeaker.net/download/extern-script.html .
But I doubt box.com lets you run PHP scripts on their Server, so that will not help you anyway.

However if you can direct link to those files, you can reference the files in a Sermon just fine without that script. You just need to manually enter the URL.

Tags in SermonSpeaker use the tags from Joomla. So you can take any tags module from Joomla or extensions.joomla.org, there should be a lot of them to choose from.
The filter field only works with sermon titles, it's not a full search. If you need that, you can use the search from Joomla. For both search modules ("Search" and "Smart Search") exist plugins so they work with SermonSpeaker and Tags.

Thanks Thomas! I'll have a look at doing the direct link idea.

Thanks also for the hint on using the Joomla tags module. Hopefully having 2 search areas on the page won't confuse users (the church is predominantly older people!!).

Cheers!!

I looked at Box - no idea how to find the path to the file - there's no right-click available. It's a really horrible system. As they currently have it set up, you must have a Box account and be logged in to listen to any sermon - I wish amateur "designers" would stick to their day jobs and not pretend to do mine! :-)

Yep, if you need an account to access the files, then it will not work nice with any web application:)

Interesting, now Box is NOT requiring me to be logged in.

I went to the latest sermon - app.box.com/s/kmmuw7slxit3x7u2tcfacev5y2dx1ftc - and entered that URL in the first field of the audiofile. The entry was accepted, but nothing will play on the frontend. Did I not understand your "do as a direct link" comment earlier?

Also, in the details page, the player controls bar overlaid the popup player button. So I turned the button off, but now the player controls aren't recognized as being part of the content and overlap another part of the template.

www.ckdev.info/covenant/index.php?option...3:testone&Itemid=189

[strike]What is the long player bar in the sermon list page? Can that be turned off?[/strike] Ignore that - I found it was to do with the player I had selected. It seems to default to the latest added sermon. Strangely, the player in the details is different between the 2 sites despite having JW Flowplayer selected for both.
