Support for SermonSpeaker 4.x is canceled as it is for Joomla 2.5. I will gladly assist you with minor issues but I will not fix any bugs anymore in this releases.
The fix is to upgrade to SermonSpeaker 5.x and Joomla 3.x, which is better anyway.

You don't really want to know my setup 
The fact that I manage this project alone and don't maintain multiple trunks makes it quite easy for me. I use the SVN repository from joomlacode mainly so I can sync the project between my work and home computers, and it builds a helpful history.
Other than that I do all the programming with Notepad++.
The testing is done on a Windows XAMPP server at work and a linux/apache server at home.
Works quite nice for me. Also I'm not a professional coder. I'm an informatician but I'm working in the network business, not the software development
