Support for SermonSpeaker 4.x is canceled as it is for Joomla 2.5. I will gladly assist you with minor issues but I will not fix any bugs anymore in this releases.
The fix is to upgrade to SermonSpeaker 5.x and Joomla 3.x, which is better anyway.

SermonSpeaker 4.2 and 4.2.1 have a bug which prevents the saving of a scripture reference in the frontend uploader. It still works in the backend.
I've fixed it in my trunk and it will be fixed with the next version.
In case you want to fix it yourself, I've attached the changed files.

Unzip the files and upload them with your FTP program to this locations:
  • scripture.php goes to /administrator/components/com_sermonspeaker/models/fields/scripture.php
  • (admin)view.html.php needs to be renamed and goes to /administrator/components/com_sermonspeaker/views/sermon/view.html.php
  • view.html.php goes to /components/com_sermonspeaker/views/frontendupload/view.html.php
  • default.php goes to /components/com_sermonspeaker/views/frontendupload/tmpl/default.php
